3. Aim & Objective:
    Considering the important to augment table fish production in the state to bridge the huge gap between demand and supply along with generation of self employment opportunities in Bishnupur District of Manipur, the project is taking up with the following objectives and also to help in achieving self-sufficiency in fish production.
    (i) Production of 420.00 tonnes of table fish @ 4,000 kg per hectare per year from 105.00 ha. of pond areas of valley district.
    (ii) Generation of full-time self-employment to a total of 105 nos. of fisherfolk families through implementation of the scheme along with harvesting of table fish from the newly constructed ponds with the financial assistance as loan and to uplift the socio-economic conditions of the poor fish farmers through generation of income

    It is, therefore, proposed a project on pisciculture scheme for taking up fish culture with a total estimated cost of Rs.420.00 lakhs for its implementation during the period of 3(three) years i.e 2010-11,2011-12 and 2012-13. and NABARD also has sanctioned a sum of Rs.378.00 lakhs during 2009-10 being loan component out of total outlay of Rs.420.00 lakhs.  Under the scheme, 105.00 ha. of water areas will be developed by way of construction of new ponds/tanks. The project will earn a profit of Rs.332.31 lakhs during repayment of loan and Rs.407.10 lakhs after completion of repayment of loan. The Department would also earn state Govt. revenue to the tune of Rs.15.75 lakhs per year from leasing out of 105 nos. of 1.0 ha. area unit ponds to the local fisher-folks. Hence, the scheme will be implemented in the valley districts of the state i.e at Ungamlen and Haotak under Bishnupur District, Manipur with financial assistance from the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) under the Rural Infrastructure Development Fund (FIDF).

4. Staff component: The staffs provided under scheme No. 1 will supervise implementation of the scheme.
