3. Aim & Objective:

    The Fishery Department is taking up 12 pisciculture development schemes. For implementing these schemes, suitable man power is a must both qualitatively as well as quantitatively. The Department is headed by a Director of Fisheries who is the Executive Head of Department. He is assisted by 1(one) Additional Director of Fisheries, 1(one) Joint Director of Fisheries, 1(one) Deputy Registrar Co-operative Society (Fishery) and 4(four) Fishery Officers in the Directorate for implementation of various plan schemes.

    1(one) Research Centre under a Fishery Officer is functioning at Lamphelpat to evolve new methods/techniques of fisheries suited to the agro-climatic conditions of the state. At the district level, 1(one) District Fishery Officer (DFO) assisted by a Fishery Officer and Fishery Inspectors on the technical side and 1(one) Head Clerk in the ministerial side with other field and ministerial staffs are functioning. Up-to the end of 11th plan period, proper accommodation for the office buildings as well as for the staff quarters could not be provided in some of the districts of Manipur. As such, proper office building and staff office quarters, office equipments etc. are to be provided during the 12th plan. Most of the registered Government fisheries which are now under the control of the State Revenue Department, Manipur will be look into by the fisheries technical staffs. For this, existing technical personnel are required to be strengthened in addition to the existing staff so as to implement the fishery schemes properly.

    There are 9 (nine) districts i.e. 4(four) valley districts viz., Imphal West, Imphal East, Thoubal and Bishnupur and another 5 (five) hill districts viz., Ukhrul, Chandel, Senapati, Tamenglong, Churachandpur in which 9 (nine) District Fishery Officers(D.F.O) were working as head of the district with his subordinate staff for  implementing different   developmental schemes. 

4. Location of the Scheme: The scheme will be located in all the districts of Manipur.

5. Justification for continuance of the Scheme:
    For implementing fishery schemes, suitable manpower is a must both qualitatively and quantitatively. Up to the end of 11th Plan period, proper accommodation for non residential and residential buildings in all the 9(nine) districts of Manipur could not be provided. As such, office building and staff quarters are to be provided for proper supervision of the implementation of various Fishery schemes.
